Grindstone Creek Bridge Construction Project

The City of Hamilton will replace the Grindstone Creek Bridge on Dundas Street East (Highway 5) between Mill Street and Reynold Street in Waterdown. This replacement is required due to the age and condition of the bridge.

Visit the City of Hamilton Project Page for construction details and latest news Click  UPDATES or DETOUR to find current information.

Stage 1 Construction – Beginning September 29, 2025 for approximately one year

This stage involves removing and replacing the south half of the bridge while maintaining the north side of the bridge for vehicles and pedestrians.

Stage 1 is anticipated to cause the most disruption with only one lane open. Traffic will alternate directions with eastbound movement from 2:00 AM – 2:00 PM and westbound movement from 2:00 PM to 2:00 AM.  Parkside Drive will continue to be the detour route.  People will adjust their traffic patterns quickly. It is important we work together to encourage customers to be patient, find alternative ways to get to the commercial area and thank them for their patience and loyalty throughout construction. It’s Worth the Detour!
