Cate Hawkins, Artist
I am a retired Special Education teacher. I started painting during Covid as a way to keep busy. My students use to tease me that I couldn’t even draw a stick figure. But I watched a few online videos and started to play around with watercolours and acrylics and discovered my new passion. Here I am, three years later with a studio in our home. I have found a very appreciative audience for my work on the walls at Alexander Place, where I now teach arts and crafts, as well as painting.

Passage of Time
As a senior myself, I appreciate how the “Passage of Time” hits us all in different ways. In our youth, time doesn’t pass fast enough. As adults, we never have enough time to do everything we want to do. As seniors, we appreciate the time we have had, the experiences time has given us and the gift each day is ahead of us. Volunteering with fellow seniors at Alexander Place in Waterdown, bringing out their creativity is one of my favourite ways to spend my time left on Earth.
