Kyle Joedicke, Artist
Kyle Joedicke is a Cayuga Woodland artist whose work reflects the stories of his Haudenosaunee cultural heritage. Born in Caledonia, Joedicke grew up in the home of a mother of Scottish descent while his father was a Cayuga and Turtle Clan member from the nearby Six Nations of the Grand River. The content of Joedicke’s painting practice is informed by the Haudenosaunee stories of his background while his visual vocabulary is influenced by the woodland art of Norval Morrisseau.

Conservation of the Grand River
The design concept behind the artwork deals with the importance of conservation of the abundant plant and wildlife found in and around the Grand River. There are a number of endangered animals whose habitats are at risk of devastating loss due to pollution from neighbouring communities greatly affecting water quality and spawning grounds. I have highlighted one species in particular, the spotted gar.

Sacajawea Non-Profit Housing is focused on providing affordable housing for Indigenous Peoples and families living in Hamilton by acquiring and renovating properties, building properties, and supporting residents in culturally grounded ways. They administer funds directed at indigenous housing and seek to grow the number of units through partnerships, fundraising and advocacy. Sacajawea is a woman-led organization.
