Gledis Naska, Artist
My name is Gledis. My art explores the relationship between physical and spiritual existence – the dualities that encompass our physical world, as well as the dualities of mental phenomena. Nature is the great master teaching me all there is to know about who I am. It not only inspires my art, but also my approach to life. I have found a similar peace in yoga. Each painting, each breath, each movement, is a grand orchestra of who I am at a moment in time.

The theme of this painting was women, and the abundance and beauty that they bring to this earth. This painting particularly explores the intrinsic connection or rather parallel that women and the Earth have to one another. I like to think of the earth like a woman’s womb. You plant seeds upon it, sew it with love and it will bring you the most beautiful fruits. The earth, like the womb, brings us so much abundance when we take care of it, love it, nurture it. So there is this fundamental beauty in the way that the mechanisms of the earth are found to work in a similar almost analogous fashion to the mechanisms of everything around it, but particularly the ones of the female body. Let us rejoice in the abundance of the earth, let us honor the beautiful women next to us, and all over the world. Let us heal our relationship to the earth and women. Let us nurture, and protect them both.
