Jessica Gustafson, Artist
Jessica is one of the youngest artist participating in the Chairing is Caring initiative. Raised in a creative family, she has been playing with clay, pencils, paint and other mediums as long as she can remember. Jessica is currently studying for a Bachelor of Design at Conestoga College.
The Calming Chair
Jessica has painted a chair symbolizing the intricate balance of mental health. Nature-themed, the chair explores yin-yang, highlighting the interconnectedness of all things – even opposites. Jessica believes that nature, and acceptance of the world being perfect just the way it is, is the key to peace in our lives. The design of the chair is to calm and settle whoever sits in it, touching the painted smooth stones and water with their arms and hands, the lily pads at their feet, and the yin-yang koi fish centered in their back, bringing our internal energies back into balance.
