MIA Encaustics / Margot Rae, Artist

I am a local artist and have been painting in the Waterdown community for several years. Traditionally my medium is Encaustic painting which is a combination of melted bees wax and oil pigment. I was so thrilled to take on the challenge of painting a chair for this initiative! As an artist it’s easy to immerse yourself in your comfort zone. This project was such a refreshing way for me to break away from that, explore a different medium and an unusual “canvas” while still being true to my style.

Seeing the Trees and the Forest

For me, mental health and nature go hand in hand. When I happily agreed to work on this project my first instinct was to visualize the calm I find when I am painting a beautiful horizon, a silhouette of trees, a big moody sky, the list is endless! Taking the time to reflect on the simple beauty in the world around us helps me to reset and gather my thoughts. This painting is a suggestion of that feeling and my hope is that it draws the viewer in and entices them to pause and take a breath.
