Heritage Art Walk
Walk through time along Dundas Street in the Village of Waterdown
The Waterdown Business Improvement Area (BIA), supported by a City of Hamilton Economic Development placemaking grant, is excited to connect locals and visitors to the heritage of our downtown through art.
Experience ‘place’ past and present by viewing permanent mural and metal art installations affixed to six large planters situated on Dundas Street between Mill and Hamilton Streets. Each installation reveals a streetscape from yesteryear associated to the planter’s location and bears a QR code leading to the story behind the scenes.
Illustrations mounted to the planters are illustrated by local artist Bhairavi Jathar Talpade with reference to historical photos sourced through Flamborough Archives and Heritage Society. Flamborough artist Carol Nasvytis of Soul Metal crafted the metal inserts as companion pieces to the murals, adding more details of the Village’s storied past.
“We’re thrilled to launch a project that makes art accessible to everyone, tells stories unique to our community and enhances the visual environment,” says Amanda Groves, Chair of the Waterdown BIA. “We welcome all to visit our growing outdoor gallery and learn more about our heritage.”
Murals and metal art have now been installed, creating a visual and informative walking tour of the district.
This project was made possible by a collaborative team of storytellers. Sincere gratitude goes to:
